Irrespective of culture Christian parents continue to teach Bible verses and few lines from a favorite Christian song to their little children. Thus the first song and the verse they ever by-hearted are Biblical. This is an unconscious response by parents to what was entrusted to them by the church during the time of the child’s baptism.

As the children reach 3 – 4 years they come to an understanding that they belong to a larger group when they attend Sunday School that provide a more organized form of such experience and training. The Mar Thoma Church recognized the importance of bringing up children in the ways of the Lord, by teaching them Bible from the very young days. With this vision pioneers of Mar Thoma Church started the Sunday Schools soon after the Reformation.         

Sunday school provides not only Christian education but also brings Jesus in to the children's hearts. The Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam formed in 1905, serves as the central educational institution for children. The growth and development of the Sunday School Samajam as one of the leading Christian educational organizations in India, is the result of the extraordinary organizing abilities of Rev. V. P.Mammen and Rev. Dr. K.K.George.
